With the support of Ukrainian and Russian experts of all kinds, after the unexpected surprise of the Russian invasion seven months ago in Ukrainian territory – a failure of the Western Intelligence Services that, according to NATO, should produce rapid information in real time to be able to react effectively –, the debates mentioned began with the one that analyzed whether such action was a war or not, given the Russian declaration that the invasion was only a “special military operation.” Declaration that placed said invasion , because there was no formal declaration of war, outside the conception of a conventional war, even when it was armed and violent, with the reality that Europe was and is at war.
Specifically, that debate about whether the type of war is BTC Users Number Data conventional for some, even accusing action on civilians, or hybrid for others, if different procedures from the usual ones are added to the conventional one, in support of that war confrontation – proxy for the Russians before the indirect war intervention of the friends of Ukraine–; or, for others, it is a total war in the style of World War II , in which warlike action was taken with everything and against everything.
Over time, the duration of the war/conflict was also debated. On the other hand were those who, considering Vladimir Putin 's alleged objectives – the annexation of all of Ukraine after the fall of Kiev, or just a border part – presumed that it would be longer. In the distance of this debate, it is possible to note that not even the seconds were completely right.
As a consequence, the assertion that the Russian invasion has managed to unite Europe and strengthen NATO against it – as declared at the NATO Summit in Madrid – has recently been raised as a dangerous possibility by Josep Borrell, the high representative of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the UN, in view of the fact that Hungary wants a popular consultation on the effects of Russian sanctions and the determination of solutions. This, despite the fact that this assertion was not clear to some because what seemed clear could be broken in order of the national interests of each country, as the conflict progresses and the harshness of the Russian sanctions, which are already deteriorating and destabilizing the European and world economy.
